This interview with Rooney reveals that Rooney’s new album will be called Eureka :) Kinda fitting if you ask me ;)
(in case you didn’t know, Eureka means something along the lines of “having found it”, it being what you’re looking for)

Interview:
Rooney Steps Back, Regroups For Future

By GARY GRAFF
Of the Oakland Press

It’s been a busy time of transition for Rooney.

The Los Angeles rock quintet left its record company, Interscope, after it wound down touring for its 2008 sophomore album “Calling the World.” Then, it started working on a third album that frontman Robert Schwartzman says “wasn’t exactly the record we wanted to make,” so the group took “a step back” before starting over again in March.

That album, titled “Eureka,” was recently finished, and Schwartzman — the son of actress Talia Shire, brother of actor/musician Jason Schwartzman and nephew of filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola — says Rooney was ready to get out on the road after a long stretch of studio time.

“We’ve been working a lot, recording, and we feel like we haven’t been able to get out and play for our fans,” Schwartzman, 26, says. “We want to get new music out, but we also want to be able to play shows.

“It’s nice for people to get something new from us and come to the shows. It makes it more of an event for us and our fans.”

“Eureka” isn’t due out until next year and will most likely be released independently by the band. To tide fans over, Rooney has put together a four-song EP, “Wild One,” culled from those recording sessions and featuring songs that didn’t make the final cut — but that Schwartzman says are hardly castoffs.

“The record is really diverse, and it shows a lot of different sides to our band and what we can do,” explains Schwartzman, who’s had several acting roles and was a guest vocalist on Demi Lovato’s “Party.” “We recorded 20 or so songs and we kept going back and taking a break and listening to what we had, reapproaching the record with new material.

“As we looked at the big list of songs, some of them didn’t fit together, but they were still great songs. We didn’t want to throw them away, and we saw that we could make a great EP as a piece of work on its own and get people ready for the album, too. That way it won’t feel like such a long time between albums.”

Sorry for not updating sooner. I’ve been really busy and then I got sick… I did try to tweet everything :)

There’s a new SayNow update… Most interesting news (if you ask me ;P) is that there’ll be 4 songs on the Wild One EP.

Speaking about the EP… In case you haven’t heard, the EP will only be available at the shows on the Wild One Tour (though I’m sure they’ll put them up in their merch store if they have any left afterwards).
Opening on the Wild One Tour will be Tally Hall and Crash King.

There’s been created events on facebook for the Rooney concerts – remember to RSVP if you’re on facebook and going to a concert – http://bit.ly/8ZTfp

There’s 2 tour posters… One with the dates (that we know so far) http://bit.ly/iLNfp and one ‘Wild One Tour’ http://bit.ly/iLhuX - Print them out, post them in your city or on your myspace, facebook and everywhere you can think off :)

Studio 21 has a video interview with Rooney from when they were at Trinity University earlier this year.
Watch it here.

I open up to page 88, and I get a little dissapointed.. Only a little though. The interview is only with Robert, and while that’s all good, I love interviews where we hear from the other guys too :)

The interview is from Bank Atlantic Center, Sunrise, FL, March 2008 and by Brittany Rich.

“I walked in to find Robert entertaining himself with a basket of toys that the venue had supplied. He was wearing a fake nose and a moustache mask” (page 88 – OTBAOTR)

The interview starts off and they talk a bit about the tour, how many shows Rooney’s done and where they’re going next. Continuing on to talk about the internet now and before
“Downloading wasn’t the same – a lot of people were stealing records, not buying them on iTunes, so iTunes has helped. But nowadays, it’s actually very friendly out there online, because you can get your content out in the world.” (page 89, OTBAOTR)

There’s some talk about labels. Robert says that if you want to have international success, you need the power of a major label – but if you want to “sell fewer records but make more of those records”, you can control your music so much more these days. There’s more talk about labels and how much people are willing to sacrifice for getting a record deal.

Robert talks about releasing the unrelased songs at the end of the “Calling the World” cycle (which obviously didn’t happen, and although I would love to see it happen, it will probably be a battle if their old label “owns” the songs).

The interview ends with Robert getting asked if there’s a website people can check out, and he starts out by telling people his solobob myspace – before getting asked for the Rooney website. To which he answers “Oh, sorry” and laughs before naming the Rooney website and myspace.

All in all it’s a pretty decent interview.. There isn’t much information I didn’t already know, eventhough I did find the part about labels interesting. I wouldn’t buy this book JUST for the Rooney interview, that being said I’m not regretting that I’ve bought the book, there’s a least a few other interesting interviews – and I’m looking forward to reading the rest :)

The book “Off the Bus and On the Record” includes  “22 Candid Rock Interviews by the Teen Journalists of the Rock Star”. One of those interviews being with Rooney.

“The reader will be exposed to a very personal side of each artists and gain insight to what really goes on backstage of a concert; it is an opportunity to see artists in a new light,” said Zac.

Brittany noted that the interviews could not be compared to interviews that appear on MTV. According to Brittany, the musicians were more personable around “low-key teenagers” like the Rich siblings. She added that many of the interviews occurred “while the musicians were still living out of vans, before they were media trained.”

“The book includes old interviews from bands before they became huge such as Fallout Boy, Maroon 5, and My Chemical Romance,” said Zac.

Popdose mentions that even though “most musicians are still crass, dull, selfabsorbed, and none too bright” Rooney comes of as “bright and funny, without being puerile”.

I have no idea how old the interview with Rooney is.. But I plan to find out ;) I’ll let you know when I find out.
